Lesagno: France victorious! Bellegard falls at the head of his troops

'Berthier! Write this down!'

'Oui mon General, jjjust a moment...'

'What time is it? Right...send this to Paris'

'The Army of Italy has once again vanquished the Sardinian King's forces. The road to Turin is open on the evening of 1e  Floréal and the commander of the Piedmontese army at Lesegno is mortally wounded. We march tomorrow!...that'll do, keep them happy...how many prisoners?'

'Ah, over 2,500 General,'

'Always a nuisance prisoners..oh well, tell them we're here to break their chains not shackle them or somesuch...get me Augereau please,'

'Oui mon General!'

Bonaparte's gamble paid off, as these have been wont to do in this operation.

Augereau's diversionary attack on the Tarrono crossings tied down the Piedmontese reserve and main  French flanking assault broke their resistance with a combination of numbers and elan.

The French deployed in attack formation, Serieur's divsion in the foreground. This formation is charged with executing the flanking manoeuvre against the Piedmotese position

The Legere adopt skirmish formation and close with the Piedmontese in Lesegano, screening the assault columns and maintaining harrassing fire

Bonaparte committed Serieur to a right hook and sent his sole battery of horse artillery ahead to lay down fire on the enemy. The Pas de Charge is beaten and the pace of the advance quickens

Bellegarde shores up his left and wonders where his reserve is. Unfortunately Vitali advises the pressure on the Tarrono crossings form Augereau means the Grenadiers cannot be released

Not everything goes smoothly for the French: one of  Serieur's understrength battalions breaks after failing to inflict any damage to a Piedmontese battalion and rolling a 3 on the subsequent break test (the green die was the stamina hit endured prior to the combat; the pink die the stamina hit endured in the combat; the red dice the break test roll)

Much powder and shot is expended but eventually the Piedmontese in one of the town sectors break under the weight of fire form three battalions of chasseurs

The Piedmontese begin to crumble under the pressure of numbers and a determined attack pressed home with elan

Another battalion breaks!

Repeated volleys of musketry and grape shot from the French artillery break another battalion; Bellegarde is mortally wounded at the head of his troops
It's all over- a bird's eye view shows how the Piedmontese right has collapsed. Everywhere their men throw down their arms and surrender.
